Grab announces a partnership with MRT Jakarta. First, it includes several strategic plans, related to the usage of GrabPay e-money (supported by OVO platform) as the payment method. Second, related to the connectivity (first mile – last mile) for MRT Jakarta and Grab passengers. Third, the proof of concept creation for mobile payment integration to make all in one platform.
Ridzki Kramadibrata, Grab Indonesia’s Managing Director, said the partnership is a first step to create an integrated transportation system. They expect this partnership can strengthen Grab’s role in providing transportation modes in Jakarta.
Adrian Suherman, President Director of OVO, said he thinks Grab’s involvement helps to boost OVO’s position as the payment platform. Integration with transportation service is considered as an important use-cases for OVO to expand user’s reach.
A similar partnership has been performed by GO-JEK last month. With the same objective, through its own mobile payment, GO-JEK wants to be the alternative facility for MRT Jakarta ticketing. In addition to ticketing, it also offers Non Farebox Business concept.
