Rakuten Belanja Online (RBO) announced through their Twitter account that Rakuten Belanja Online (Rakuten Online Shopping) service beta version is now launched and ready. This release became the first official access after early December last year they announced their official website address for Indonesian users and invited online sellers to join them.
Rakuten Belanja Online is a joint venture between Rakuten (Japan) with PT Global Mediacom Tbk. Rakuten is a market leader and the biggest online shopping center in Japan, while PT Global Mediacom Tbk (MNC Group) is the biggest media company in Indonesia.
Collaboration between these two big companies becomes one of the most expected things this year. One of the reasons is because both are big companies (market leaders) in each of their respective countries and have strong capitals to conquer local e-commerce market share and it will be interesting to see their strategy to develop their service, because there are other online shopping mall providers. Not to mention similar service existed before them. It will be an unavoidable competition.
If you visit their website, this online shopping mall is already has plenty to offer. They have electronic, books, clothing, and other products to offer. One of Indonesia’s big and well known publishers Erlangga, can be found there.
Another interesting thing about Rakuten is their payment system. Their website informs that Rakuten Belanja Online use escrow facility, collaborate with NsiaPay. Payment can be made by through credit card or internet banking.
Rakuten Belanja Online is now officially accessible, despite being still in beta version and there’s no access for mobile device available as we speak, let’s see what strategy they are using and the strategy from similar service in providing the most interesting facility for their users, customers or merchant. Any of you visited Rakuten Belanja Online already? What do you think?
