I’ve been worried seeing how mobile industry in Indonesia is developing nowadays. I mean with such a huge market, it is really hard to find mobile developer with excellent quality in Indonesia. Some of my friends have been complaining lately and ask me to help them find good mobile developers, but unfortunately the most of the goods ones are already taken or busy with other project. And even more unfortunate, there really aren’t so many mobile developers in Indonesia.
This really worries me, has Indonesia been left behind in mobile technology area? Are mobile developers in Indonesia really not that many?
As a growing industry, and considering the size of mobile/internet market in Indonesia, we really shouldn’t think twice to invest in Indonesia’s mobile business. The market is huge, and there’s always empty slots for new products or internet based mobile service to fill.
I talked to some of my mobile developer friends and they admit that they also finds difficulties in finding engineers who focused in mobile, most of them are still trapped in web although fact and trend show that mobile industry is growing fast and huge. Most mobile developers are “lazy” because mobile application development is “controlled” by certain vendors like Apple and Google, unlike web world that has global standard everybody can use all around the globe.
This becomes one of the reasons why there aren’t so many mobile developers available in Indonesia.
Several days ago InMobi, an India based mobile art network company, released their report on inMobi’s traffic analyzes in Asia Pacific region and shows several interesting facts. Regionally speaking, mobile traffic in Asia Pacific with monthly impression of 18 billion, shows 10% growth in the last 3 months.
In the infography, traffic from Indonesia is ranked number two below India with 25% and Vietnam as the fastest growth, represented 9% inMobi’s traffic. Similar fact also shown by AdMob, the Google’s mobile ad network placed Indonesia on number 3 the largest in the world, after US and India.
Mobile adoption in Indonesia is remarkable, but do keep in mind that this is only the beginning. In 3-5 years to come, it is not unlikely that Indonesia becomes the leader in mobile world, overpowering India and US. And I will not be so surprised if the biggest next innovation in mobile industry comes from Indonesian startup. It all now depends on us in the industry, whether we want to move on from being consumers and turn into quality mobile startups and present sophisticated innovations in this extremely huge and ready to be managed market.
