The other day, Gree announced that it will establish a new subsidiary for investment called Gree Ventures. As reported on Asiajin, Gree Ventures will make GV-I Investment Partnership that will do investment to startups on the internet business realm.
Gree which run their business in social game platform is one of the biggest digital companies in Japan. Dr. Serkan Toto also mentioned that Glee’s financial statement is shown a good result.
Another interesting thing about it is that it will hand investments not only for the Japanese market but also globally with Southeast Asia and East Asia as the main focus. According to its official release, the focus on Southeast Asia and East Asia will be a long term expansion for Gree.
If we talk about Indonesia, which is among the countries on Gree’s radar, we can see that Internet industry or startups is growing fast even if it seems to be slower at this end of year, but the growth of venture capitals, incubators, accelerators and many other programs dealing with startups including competitions, remains.
The game industry, including mobile game, is growing fast not only in the number of users but also in number of the game developers. These game developers keep emerging; some of them has already received investment and others keep developing their companies and game titles.
Will Gree enter Indonesian market and find Indonesian startups to invest? We’ll have to wait and find out but we are quite certain that there is a chance for Indonesian startups to receive investment from Gree Ventures. As to who will be the lucky recipients, we’ll let you know if that happens.
