XL Axiata enters remittance (money sending) business starting last Monday. This business allows XL user to send money easily via their cell phones. This kind of service had previously been done by Telkom through a service called Delima (DELivery Money Access). For XL, this service is the expansion of existing XL Tunai’s services namely online shopping, payment of bills and shopping in store.
This newest service from XL is one of the answer for the short income of operator of basic telecommunication business like SMS and phone call. Therefore, according to Dian Siswarini, Director of Technology, Content & New Business of XL, as reported by Antaranews, operator must enter the service that applied to daily lives. Among them is through this remittance business.
This money sending allows XL user to send money to fellow XL user. By registering to nearby XL Center, user can send money starting from IDR10,000 up to IDR5,000,000. For money sending up to IDR200,000, XL Tunai will charge IDR5,000 and above that amount will be charged IDR 10,000.
In an article on Tempo, Dian said that the market for this money sending service is still big. Money delivery service by the post office is used by only 12% of Indonesian people while money transfer using bank accounts only reaches 10% of Indonesian people who have bank accounts.
Therefore, there are still a lot of people, including factory workers, housekeepers and construction workers who sent money to their relatives using informal ways such as boarding it with bus driver or acquaintance. These people are the target market of XL Tunai.
Since launched in the beginning of January 2012, XL Tunai has more than 70 thousand users. By the end of this year, XL Tunai user is targeted to reach 150 thousand users.
