The trend of foreign players establishing their factories in Indonesia, so that they could contain the government’s latest regulation on Local Component in smartphone, seems to continue rolling. This time, France-based Wiko Mobile has that concept in mind. Besides facilitating th ebrand development, the plan also accommodates its target of entering the best 10 of smartphone brands in Indonesia.
Wiko Mobile first entered Indonesia three months ago with competitive smartphone and affordable price. In France, Wiko’s brand is well-known for being the second biggest handset vendor only in three years after being launched. Portraying the vast population Indonesia has, Wiko is certain that its products’ competitiveness is high all right.
As a new player, Wiko also voiced its readiness in containing Indonesia’s applied law, including the aforementioned one. The plan is to have the factory, which is projected to be able to produce 4000 units smartphone, built in Tangerang. Unfortunately, Wiko refused to disclose the investment it spends.
As reported by CNN Indonesia, Wiko Mobile Indonesia’s Chief Marketing Officer Djanto Jojo explained, ”We recognize that the regulation of local component is about to be applied. We’ve found the solution by establishing our own local factory.”
“Our expectation is to have it standing by this year, faster is better. […] At the moment it’s only one line producing at least 4000 units,” added Wiko Mobile Indonesia’s Chief Sales Officer Sung Khiun.
In building the factory, Wiko Indonesia’s CEO Dwi Lingga Jaya stated that his team partner with Parastar Group. Parastar Group is an Indonesia-based distributor and importer of IT products and Wiko Mobile’s official distributor in Indonesia. As cited from Tribunnews, Jaya explained that along with Parastar, his team have prepared an area in Bitung, Tangerang, which sized 700 square meters.
As a new brand, Khiun explained that the team’s current main focus is to induct their brand into the best 10 in Indonesia. Moreover, the Marseille-based producer also targeted 12 percent of sales in 2016.
“Our target is to enter the biggest ten by the end of this year,” Khiun said as cited from Info Komputer.
Nowadays, the trend of foreign players establishing factories in Indonesia indeed is on the rise, with Samsung, Vivo, Asus, Asiafone, Oppo, Huawei, and ZTE have previously started each own project.
