The strong competition between mobile messaging & communication apps has been pushing its players to start thinking about its business model, somewhat pushing almost all of them to launch a rather similar business model for each apps. The latest app to jump the sticker wagon is Viber, which today reveals its Sticker Market as means to start making money for the company.
Via a press release, it is obvious that Viber wants to strengthen its position amongst their competition just like what they did when Viber launched their desktop app, and now they’re doing it again with Android tablets. With the strong growth of Android tablets,Viber CEO Talmon Marco feels that a custom app is needed to maximise the form factor of tablets. Of course the app made for smartphone should offer a totally different experience compared to the app for tablets.
These two main features for Viber is included in its latest 4.0 release update launched simultaneously today, shows how Viber is trying seriously to be relevant and is very much in the competition with the other messaging apps. So far, it’s fair to say that Viber has the most country of base for its active users compare to the other players which usually dominates 1-2 markets only. Viber’s strategy in important mobile market such as Indonesia also seems to pay off and should raise concerns for its competitors.
Up until today, Viber has more than 200 million users spread in 193 countries around the world and has the biggest collection of apps for every platform existed including desktop and mobile: Windows, Linux, Bada, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Android, iOS etc, far more complete compared to its competitors.
