Mobile Game Developer War Event which was held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 yesterday have been accomplished. This event was a final of Mobile Developer Camp event series that have been held for two weeks in Bandung, Jawa Barat – Indonesia.

The event was held by Agate Studios and sponsored by Nokia, featuring 10 finalists from 25 teams of Java-based game developers that previously had been through workshops and selection. 10 teams consisting of artists / graphic designers and programmers were presenting the results of their work, gave demonstrations and answered many questions from the judges.

The seminar room at the Hilton Hotel Bandung yesterday was transformed into an exhibition and the ‘battle’ arena complete with a stage for presentation and live demo of some fairly complete mobile game works. There were booths for each finalists which gave an opportunity for the guests to see the work of mobile games presented.

There were two stages they faced before finally 3 teams were chosen from 10 teams that would have re-matched to determine the first winner to the third. Here’s a list of 10 finalists along with the name of the game with the development team selected by the judges:

And the judges consisting of Narenda Wicaksono, Rama Mamuaya, Rhesa S, Andri Yadi, and Firstman Marpaung, decided three main winners and one favorite winner from the visitors choice. All three games are: Defender Windvale (Raka Mahesa – Timothy Nugroho Chandra), the game prevents attacks by placing a fortress in particular places. Each winner receive prizes from Nokia, Nokia E7 mobile phone and Nokia N8 for the second winner, the Nokia N8 and C7 for the third and first prize winners get prizes Alienware laptop and the Nokia E7.

The peak show of Mobile Game Developer Camp which also welcomed the second anniversary of Agate is indeed not only filled by Mobile Game Developer War, there was also the inauguration of N.Ice and a few presentations that represent the Nokia or the organizers.

I was quite amazed by this entire series of events, starting from the workshops on DigiGames with complete facilities, then the main event yesterday also with a remarkable facility, booth for each of the finalists to show off their work, a stage and a very complete presentation facilities, including wireless microphone for the presentation, up to high-end PCs that are used for live coding.

Unfortunately, the mobile phone facilities which should be provided from the beginning in the participant booths were less maximized. It would be more exciting if the visitors could try it directly the game which could have been accessed or played from a mobile device.

Of course the end of this event for Bandung remained the spirit to wait for another events like this to come again. Nokia itself will hold similar events in various cities as a continuation of the event. I also hope the development of the game works would be continued and published on Ovi Store, which of course not only to open opportunities for developers to earn revenue (if the game application is for sale or sell a particular virtual game item), will certainly also expand the market of game applications created by developers from Indonesia.

Congratulations for the winners, thanks to Agate as an organizer of the event as well as Nokia as a sponsor who has provided the opportunity for mobile game developers from Indonesia to develop their potential and work. Also thanks for providing an opportunity to DailySocial as a media partner. See you at the next event.

Here’s a video that records the atmosphere of the event and a brief interview with the first winner of Mobile Game Developer War and additional information about the series of events which can be viewed on the N.Ice site.
