After getting parted from the Ministry of Tourism, the Directory General of Creative Economy’s fate has finally been decided. As Kompas reported, the National Secretary of Indonesia, Pratikno, gave his words that the government looks for an option of establishing a special agency, which is called the Creative Economy Agency (CEA), to administer such matters. This agency will be one level below the Ministry and it should directly report to the President.
Although government’s role in administering the national creative industry is not that significant, but it is still really helpful for the players in the industry to get supported by the appropriate regulations and bureaucracy. “It will serve as a creative economy agency so that it would cover broader areas. Its level would be a bit below the Ministry,” Pratikno stated.
So far, the establishment of an incubator facility in Bandung called the Creative Centre becomes one of the Directory General’s attempts to liven up Indonesia’s creative industry. The incubator facilitates startups, especially those based in Bandung, upgrading their business. We have yet received further information on this matter, but words have it that the incubator targets students who intend to build their own startup.
Furthermore, the incubator also facilitates Business Connect, which is on the course of getting startups and big players in the industry, like SOEs, connected to open more business opportunities.
Before Indonesia had it, the decision of establishing a special agency of creative economy had previously been taken by our neighboring countries. Malaysia has established MaGIC (Malaysian Global Innovation & Creative Centre), while Singapore has IDA (Infocomm Dvelopment Authority of Singapore).
