Telkomsel is partnering with MyAppsMall in developing a app marketplace dedicated for Telkomsel customer. Many app for various types of cell phones and platforms are available inside the marketplace. One of the highlighted app is the Telkomsel version of Line chat app for Android user.
Other than Line app, MyAppsMall for Telkomsel user also provides many types of apps, games and wallpapers both free and paid. When visiting the marketplace, user can type in the brand and type of the cell phone they are using to filter displayed apps to match the cell phone.
Gideon Edie Purnomo, Head VAS, Applications and Device Management Group of Telkomsel, says that the cooperation between MyAppsMall and Telkomsel is done so user can easily get many interesting and qualified apps that fit the handset they are using.
In the FAQ page of Telkomsel MyAppsMall marketplace, it is mentioned that paid apps is available for purchase with phone credit through credit cutting (prepaid) and charging into the bill (postpaid). For user who browses with web page can directly purchase the paid app using credit card.
However, the development of the marketplace seems hasn’t finished yet. When I typed in a type of cell phone with Android platform, I found some Java based apps were displayed in the marketplace. Moreover, one of the links in the FAQ page still leads to MyAppsMall marketplace for SingTel. It looks like the development of this marketplace for Telkomsel is using the template of marketplace for SingTel.
Solution for Android?
I found several paid Android apps are also on sale (with cheaper price) inside MyAppsMall marketplace for SingTel. Becayse MyAppsMall also receives payment with credit cutting, then SingTel user who uses Android can purchase paid Android app with the credit they owned.
If Telkomsel also develops the MyAppsMall like the one for SingTel, then Telkomsel MyAppsMall will solve the problem of Android app purchasing in Indonesia. Telkomsel customer who uses Android will be able to buy paid account without using credit card. Obviously, this app market will be more crowded if Telkomsel manage to attract developers to put apps in the marketplace.
