Talking about Cloud Computing in Indonesia with Onno W Purbo

DailySocial readers in Indonesia must know this phenomenal figure, Onno W Purbo is one of the important persons in Indonesian IT. Last Saturday, DailySocial attended the seminar entitled “One Day Future Networking: Cloud Computing”. This event was held by Synaptic UII in Sahid Raya Hotel.

At the seminar, Onno W Purbo, who is usually called as Kang Onno is the main speaker. At that time, DailySocial got a chance to discuss with him. The discussion is about his view on cloud computing development in Indonesia.

On this video, Kang Onno explained that there are two kinds of cloud: public cloud and private cloud. Public cloud is the cloud sold on the internet by a company and private cloud is the one that work on LAN network. Indonesian users who use public cloud will face the problem with internet network. We know that almost all area in Indonesia has bad internet access except some big cities that their internet infrastructure works well. If the users has bad internet network, it will be hard to access the cloud.

Kang Onno also explains that private cloud is the interesting solution for Indonesian.Why? With the private cloud, companies, offices, universities, schools and so on can save the server with cloud computing technology. It also can support the internet infrastructure in Indonesia.

This time, Kang Onno also suggests college students especially IT students to develop cloud computing (private cloud) for their thesis research or to get a job.

  1. The term of Cloud Computing has become buzzword that busy talking among activist of Information Technology in Indonesia. Why they still did offering a public cloud even they know that their country is that internet access is their main problem?
