The newly-appointed Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara doesn’t intend to waste any single second of his regime that he is currently working on two major projects, the acceleration of digital TV adoption and the filtering of pornographic content out of internet, only months after being officially appointed.
As Indotelko reported, Rudiantara looks to allocate the frequency that is usually used by the 112 MHz broadband, the 700 MHz, for the mobile broadband 4G LTE network.
“I expect to have the TV digitalization project completed by 2018. There are indeed issues related to law, but we’ll keep trying,” Rudiantara said, referring to the delay of the Ministry’s Act number 22/2011 about Digital Television adoption done by the Supreme Court of Indonesia.
Further, the Minister re-emphasized that he will keep filtering pornographic content out of internet.
For short-term implementation, it might work. However, unfortunately, the filtering process also often blocks non-pornographic content, some even highly beneficial for many. To solve the issue, Rudiantara and his team decided to merely block the service as a whole.
“If there is any keyword with any porn in it the search engine will automatically shut it down,” mentioned Rudiantara, as being reported by Tempo. Even so, he refused to explain further on how his side would persuade search engines like Google to shut the services.
Filtering out negative content wouldn’t be as easy as one two three, nor be that much effective, although the possibility is still there.
Rudiantara started announcing his consent on pornographic content filtering when he vowed to unblock the blocked Vimeo. The unblocking itself came with one inseperable requisite: the video platform must create a special filtering for pornography within its website.
