A new era of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Indonesia Season 8 will start soon. The regular season of MPL ID S8 will begin on August 13 until October 3. After that, the playoffs will run on 8-10 October 2021.
As with the previous season, 8 teams will be fighting to be the best team in Indonesia. Those teams are Alter Ego, Aurafire, Bigetron Alpha, Evos Legends, Onic Esports, Rebellion Genflix, and RRQ Hoshi.
Even though the number doesn’t change, there is a new team in this season. Rebellion Genflix replaces Aerowolf. This might be speculation but the reason could be related to the financial problem in Aerowolf, according to some of its players. Previously, PMPL (a professional PUBG Mobile League) announced that Aerowolf is banned from the professional scene until December 31 2022 due to mismanagement.
“With the theme of New Era, MPL Indonesia Season 8 will be very exciting. Some players did decide to take a break, but several have made a comeback. Furthermore, many young players have proven themselves to be able to shine and have great potential to become legends; this is a new era for those who dream of being number one,” said Azwin Nugraha, Public Relations Esports, MOONTON Games, in a press release.
Even though there are some veteran players such as Rekt, Liam, and LJ in Season 8, Lemon is absent in this season, at least according to the official lineup announcement. Let’s see if RRQ could get its 4th title without its most prominent player.
For the regular season, eight teams will compete in Bo3 double round-robin format. The top 6 teams from the regular season will continue to fight in the playoffs for a prize pool worth US$300,000. You could check its complete schedule on its official website.
Because of the pandemic, MPL ID S8 will be held online. Each team will play against each other from their own gaming house on Friday-Sunday. According to the press release, MPL ID S8 will be broadcasted on the following platforms:
