After i wrote about the location-based network service t4nya.com, I decided to join a Facebook Group called PPP that is basically a “meeting point” for the founders of t4nya.com. To my surprise, some of Yogyakarta’s old school geeks already joined the group. And apparently these old school tech-entrepreneurs founded a new tech hub for Yogyakarta they call Jogjahub.
From the press release I received, Jogjahub is basically a solution for the non-existent ecosystem for tech businesses in Yogyakarta, including the problem of the supply-demand for IT human resource. Talent search, skill development and to build a portal for them to gather round is the core competence for JogjaHub. Yogyakarta’s reputation as the City of Scholar has produced lots of talented engineers, a huge potential for Indonesia’s future in technology.
People from Yogyakarta has a reputation for being very low profile. Even though they have a major skill compared to other people in the region, their behavior of keeping things slow and low prevents them from growing. “That’s why we decided to build Jogjahub for people outside of Yogyakarta to know about tech people inside Yogyakarta”, said Saga Iqranegara, one of the co-founder.
Being a tech-only portal, Jogjahub is targeting programmers, designers, marketers, bloggers, accountants, digital entrepreneurs and investors. It’s not just another tech community, but rather a blend and suplements for existing communities such as Bancakan, PPP, JogjaIT, CahAndong and other tech communities in Yogyakarta. The main objective is create interaction between members that can spark the tech business ecosystem in the city.
When I write this blog post, Jogjahub only has 26 members in its alpha version and no promotional efforts has been made. But I hope with the support from its technical founders and community, Jogjahub can be a stable system and get out of its alpha version soon enough.
So, fellow developers in Yogyakarta can try out this service and who knows, Jogjahub can make its mark to help grow the tech business in Yogyakarta.
