Children’s Pop-up Book More Interactive Thanks to Virtual Reality

Brazilian developer company Ovni Studios has introduced an interactive pop-up book for children that utilizes virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies to provide a more immersive experience.

Children can read the Peronio book in different ways: on the regular two-dimensional mode through a tablet screen, or on AR mode, in which holographic images are projected from the device once its camera is lined up with a printed illustration that is placed on a table. The AR method works similarly to local startup Octagon Studio’s AR flashcard products.

A third method to read Peronio is through a VR headset, like the Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR, in which users can enjoy a combination of AR and VR elements when connecting their device to the VR headset.

With Peronio, Ovni studio aims to fulfill a twofold outcome for children: to develop young minds with a greater sense of imagination and to instill in them the knowledge conveyed in the pop-up book’s content, such as learning about car parts or even fossils.

The free version of Peronio is available for download on the App Store and Google Play, while its full version can be accessed by an in-app purchase of US$3.
