Uber recently announced strategic partnership with BBM. It allows BBM users to use all Uber services available in Indonesia without having to switch apps, even without having to install Uber app. The services can be accessed by “Discover” option in BBM app, booking can be done as per usual.
“BBM is the first Asia-Pacific partner using m.uber platform, a web client for global market giving such experience as using Uber app regardless of the location, internet connection or phone types,” said Uber Indonesia’s representative to DailySocial.
Regarding the payment system, users in BBM will be given options previously available in Uber app, it is by cash, credit or debit card payment. So far, there is no information related to the presence of new payment model, for example through existing payment channel in BBM like DANA.
This is not the first Uber’s strategic partnership. Uber previously partners with LINE allowing users to book online transportation using Uber LINE@ account. The integration is available in the late 2016 for LINE users in several cities in Indonesia.
On the other hand, BBM is quite aggresive in seeking partnership with company such as Uber in its platform. The latest is DANA’s beta version, a payment platform of Emtek and Ant Financial (Alipay) joint venture. In addition, there is another partnership helping to present some new services in “Discover” menu, including for ticket booking, job vacancies and online shopping.
For BBM, this partnership completes its app to be an all-in-one consumer platform. Meanwhile for Uber, widely market penetration becomes a priority to keep the pace against its two major competitors in Indonesia.
