Uber Expands to Bali

After months of struggling in Jakarta, Uber has eventually prepared for an expansion to another part of Indonesia. As spotted by Aulia Masna on Twitter, Bali, particularly South Bali, has been chosen as the next destination of the company’s services. Interestingly, Uber’s rate there is higher than its rate in Jakarta.

According to Uber’s special page for services in Bali, Uber provides UberBlack to accommodate people in South Bali, especially in Kuta. The basic rate that the company sets there is indentical to its standard in Jakarta, which is Rp 7000, but the tariff per minute or per km is not. It’s higher there than in Jakarta (Rp 3098 vs Rp 2850). However, Uber sets lower cancellation fee rate there.

Two months ago, Alan Jiang, who currently leads Uber in Jakarta, told DailySocial that once they reach the target in Jakarta, an expansion would indeed be quite possible to be done. Apparently, they didn’t need much time to finally realize the ambition, even though it’s not official yet.

Bali, which surprisingly experiences quite slow growth on public transportation, is indeed the perfect location for the expansion. Tourists there would most likely prefer to use Uber’s services rather than renting vehicles during they stay in the island.
