A Venture company that will begin to invest in a startup business in Southeast Asia increased one again. Golden Gate Ventures, a venture firm based in Singapore, began to open registration for the startup that wants to get funding. The time-gap which wasn’t too long after the news about Ru-Net investments in Southeast Asia did show about this interesting region in the development of technology businesses. Apparently, Ru-Net and the Golden Gate aren’t the last two companies that will go into this area.
According to Penn-Olson, Golden Gate Ventures is preparing a 10 million dollar fund to invest in a startup in South East Asia especially in Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Funds will be invested in the startup that is connected consumers with internet such as e-commerce, social media, local content providers and so on. For each startup, Golden Gate provided funds ranging from USD 50 thousand to USD 500 thousand Dollars.
Golden Gate Ventures is supported by i/o Ventures, the incubator of Silicon Valley, San Francisco. i/o Ventures support is a promising bridge to the mentors, technology, and networking from technology centers in Silicon Valley. Golden Gate Venture is also supported by the Founder Institute in Indonesia some time ago and it has graduated their first batch.
As written by SG Entrepreneurs, Golden Gate isn’t only investing in startup that already has a product and gets the market attention but they also provided two mentors to assist in the startup’s products until the product can enter the market. Both types of startup will also get some other benefits such as gaining access to regional and international mentor; host a regional networking session and investor’s network both in the East and West.
Two mentors who would provide the guidance are Vinnie Lauria and Jeffrey Paine. Both has experience cooperating with startup in Asia. Lauria has lot of works together with i/o Ventures, the Founder Institute, and JFDI. Jeffrey Paine manages Founder Institute for Asia region. Another Golden Gate team member is Paul Bragiel. Paul Bragiel will act as a liaison officer between Silicon Valley and Asia.
