Around mid-January, we reported about daily deal service from Yogyakarta soon to be launched in February. This daily deal service called Diskon.com. Precisely on February 7th 2012 Diskon.com was officially launched for public.
In the previous article, we had interviewed JogjaCamp the company behind Diskon.com. We also asked if there would be any surprise at the launched of Diskon.com. As quoted from the press release that we received, the soft launching had a lottery, with iPad 2 is the main prize in the this lottery.
Obviously, this is a way to attract users to signup as Diskon.com member. It has also been done by MurahRek.com at their first establishment but this daily deal service from Surabaya is no longer active. Until now, the initial launching of Diskon.com is reserved for the members who live in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. Based on the press release we received, in 2012 Diskon.com will penetrate to other big cities such as Jakarta, Semarang, Solo, Bandung, Surabaya, and Denpasar.
Two local deals daily service have been acquired by two giant US companies. Disdus was acquired by Groupon and DealKeren was already acquired by LivingSocial (now doing rebranding into LivingSocial Indonesia). This is followed by several other segmented daily deals services in each and every city, thus indicating that deals daily service competition in this country is very strict and being controlled by foreign players. So, will Diskon.com be able to play with the big boys?
