Several days ago, there were two interesting tweets from Nokia Indonesia’s Developer Operation Manager Narenda Wicaksono and app developer Andri Yadi about DailySocial’s application for MeeGo which was created by Dycode, Yadi’s company. Some of you readers may be aware that MeeGo is being used in Nokia’s N9 which is the company’s first and likely last commercially released mobile phone using this platform.

I haven’t got an N9 myself but seeing this demo by Yadi on YouTube I found myself impressed with this application. It may only be an RSS feed reader for the english version of the site, but I think it’s a really awesome app.

From the remarks in the YouTube video, this application is still under development stage but Yadi explained that it’s already in the beta stage, and based on the testing of early adopters, if there’s no bugs discovered and no feedback with regards to bug fixes or feature requests, the status will be upgraded to Release Candidate. Following RC, there will be a final test prior to submission. The plan is to submit the app between next Wednesday and Friday.

Why MeeGo for DailySocial’s mobile app? Yadi also explained that this platform is impressive. With only Qt and QML (especially QML), development becomes really easy. With QML Components for MeeGo, app development becomes easier and more consistent because there are many control/library UI  that’s ready to be used.

Due to the clean and light native and standard UI, the resulting application becomes light as well and the file size is small. The size of the DS app is less than 100KB. He added that he didn’t need a strong designer to create a decent and usable application, just needs to pay attention to the user experience.

“I’m actually confused why Nokia is still looking at Windows Phone 7 when MeeGo is already powerful and has the potential to become even more powerful,” said Yadi. He also underlined the lack of applications for the platform, especially local apps, and the lack of DailySocial app, as the reasons for creating a MeeGo app for DailySocial. He hopes that this becomes a worthwhile contribution to the readers of DailySocial and the startup ecosystem.

For DailySocial readers who already own a Nokia N9 and would like to install the DailySocial app for MeeGo, you can contact Andri Yadi through his twitter account @andri_yadi. This app adds to the growing collection of DailySocial apps on other mobile platforms, namely Windows Phone 7, Android, and Nokia.
