Following the launch of online ticket booking by Indonesia Train Company (PT. KAI), train commuters can now purchase tickets on Tiket.com
The new service adds to the existing offers from Tiket. other than trains you can purchase tickets for airlines, movies, and events such as concerts.
Compared to the same system on KAI’s official site, Tiket’s offering has a feature to list trains based on departure times and ticket prices. Tiket also allows customers to select trains based on class, departure time as well as the name of the line.
While you can order return trip tickets on Tiket, on KAIs website each ticket must be purchased separately. There’s also a greater range of payment options through Tiket.
What’s missing from either service is once travelers have selected their station of departure, the arrival stations aren’t filtered based on the stations being passed by the line, so they have to select the destinations by themselves from a list of every available station on the entire train network.
On the positive side, train travelers can now order tickets for executive, business, and even economy class trains without having to make their way and line up at the ticket booths at the train station. This system not only makes it easy to make purchases but it minimizes potential scalpers who will sell tickets at inflated prices. Perhaps in the future Tiket will be able to add phone or sms booking facilities which are already available for airline tickets and accommodations.
