As informed, since its emerging since middle August, finally Yahoo! Post Indonesia is officially launched at the event for media and blogger at FX Senayan. Yahoo! Post Indonesia is the third Yahoo! Post after in Hong Kong and Korea. In both countries, Yahoo! Post is known as KPost and has been established since 2010. Yahoo! Post tries to make collaboration of two popular areas on the internet those are social and search.
Yahoo! Post is actually simple and easy to use. You just need to write certain keyword and you can chat with other Yahoo! Post users in forum-like conversation. The difference is no need to float the thread just to make it up because every topic will be shown as the searching result. iPad 2 and iPod touch was offered as prizes for Yahoo! Post users (term and condition applied) in the beginning of the launching event.
When I attended the event, It looked that the activity built for Yahoo! Post in several topics makes Yahoo! Post looks dynamic. The example is the thread on Facebook game The Sims Social that now is very popular. Any users can share or ask about the topic. Until this article written, there are 163 topics. You can also browse to the topics. It is exactly that the market is young people around 15-25 years old.
On Yahoo! Post, there are 3 user categories; contributor, voter, and moderator. Every people using Yahoo! ID to discuss directly categorized as contributor. After some posts and votes – showing the liveliness – contributor can be a voter. Dedicated voters can promote themselves as moderators for certain keyword/canal. The winners will be chosen based on the democratic votes.
Aryo Kresnadi, Regional Product Marketing Manager Yahoo! SEA, worked as the main speaker for this product launching. For me, this is the strong indication that Indonesia will be the pilot project for Yahoo! Post. If it is succeed (it has a big chance) will be implemented also in other countries on the area of Yahoo! SEA. By now, I identify that the competitors for this product (direct or indirect) are Kaskus and Mindtalk.
How to make Yahoo! Post Indonesia can survive and get Indonesian users’ heart? I talk to some people and it seems that they all agree that the availability of mobile version will be the key. We know that all-age-segment users mostly access internet using mobile phone. It is enough to make mobile web to make it easy to access anywhere, not always as an application.
It is realized by Aryo who stated that the mobile version will be available soon. Yahoo! Post in Hong Kong and Korea are desktop-based because most of the users access this site by using computer. Therefore, when it is brought here, the ready version is the desktop version. Here, the internet behavior is different and the availability of mobile version for social sites is a must.
To make it competitive, hopefully, the release of the mobile web is not drag on like the polemic of API release, Yahoo! Koprol. Is Yahoo! Post a right media for you to share and discuss many things? Let’s discuss your comments on the comments column.
