Last week Tokopedia announced that it has adopted UNIK as an additional payment option that its customers can use to purchase goods from its online stores.
UNIK, short for Uang Elektronik (Electronic Money) is a payment system developed by a company called Transmaya. it covers online purchases, utility bills, and phone credit top ups and the company is also working to add fund transfers to its service. To use UNIK, buyers will have to register as a member and deposit funds before they can take advantage of the facilities.
Tokopedia explains on its website that the benefit for customers by using UNIK is the instant verification of payments which allows a speedier transaction between merchants and buyers. For merchants, the benefit is the addition of UNIK users as potential customers.
UNIK can be used to purchase items for as little as Rp 50,000 and a maximum value of Rp 5 million. Some of the conditions in using UNIK is that each invoice must be paid separately and that there can only be 19 types of items per invoice although there’s no limit as to the number of items in the invoice. Customers have 30 minutes to confirm and pay for the order using UNIK’s system.
The Payment systems should (Really) Easy to Use
Payment would be an important issue in e-commerce. It’s not the only issue but an important factor. Tokopedia also seeks a payment method tool that can support the transaction quickly.
But amidst the competition of existing payment system, not to mention the payment services from bank such as BCA KlikPay and Mandiri ClickPay, the one close to what users have used that will be selected. Users and sellers actually don’t want complicated process, the addition of payment system should escalate and facilitate buying and selling channel that they – users and sellers already use or related to. Adding another account for payment will make too many option for users.
This is one thing that must be considered by Tokopedia. User must have UNIK account. It means that for those who didn’t have it should make an account, and maybe it will add another account for payment system that users had. Yes, there are other payment options in Tokopedia, but it’s a ‘manual’ bank transfer. Unless the main purpose is more to take UNIK members to buy in Tokopedia, it would be becoming another matter.
On the other hand, the news about payment system is becoming the positive side. At least, there’s additional option for making payments, although as I mentioned above, the additional payment option should make both parties, seller and buyer easy of doing business and it’s not creating additional work for both.
