For so long, Indonesia users have been the top user of Opera Mini that has the biggest number of users in Asia and number two in the world, after Rusia. However, based on the monthly report for August 2011, the position has been taken by India. It makes Indonesia be the number three. There is a fantastic growth of Opera Mini users in India, compare to August 2011, India got unique users about 159%. In the same period, Indonesia only got unique growth users about 33%.
In general, Opera got 128 million users in August 2011. The number increased 5.1% compare to the previous month. According to the position of August 2011, it has been increased twice. It is a good achievement for Opera that is on a green energy campaign by doing efficiency in its data center. The country in Top 10 Opera Mini users that growing fast in Asia, besides India, is Vietnam with the unique users growth about 147.8% in the last year.
In Indonesia, the Top 10 visited sites using Opera Mini are Facebook.com, Google.com, and Youtube.com. In the forth position is Detik.com which is the only local site in this elite chart. The Top 10 mobile phone is completely conquered by Nokia. Formerly, Sony Ericsson mobile phone was in the chart, but with the Sony Ericsson policy, which focuses on Android market, it is practically made the number of Opera Mini users in this brand is decreasing.
In my opinion, the other factor that makes the rank of Indonesia decreased is the change of mobile phone trend. The range area of mid-end that previously dominated by Nokia and Chinese mobile phone (Nexian etc) now changes to Android phone in moderate specification or BlackBerry in entry-level. The price is getting lower with good applications. The reliable Android original browser makes the users neglect the third party browser like Opera Mini.
