Indonesian domain authority (PANDI) recently announced that they will alter the domain registration system for .id domains early next year. They will shift from Single Point Registry System (SPRS) to Shared Registry System (SRS), the globally-adopted standard for domain registrations.
As PANDI states, this alteration is to increase the quality of services for domain registration service and also to open new business potentials for ISP and hosting providers. This is the result of the partnership between PANDI and GMO Registry that we covered 2 months ago.
This transition will also affect the registration system to shutdown temporarily starting from November 17 – 25 2011. During this time, consumer won’t be able to register for a .id domains until it reopens November 26th 2011. After the transition is done, PANDI will enable all companies to apply as a registrar for .id domains.
This means that hosting companies and ISP with certain qualification can now easily be a registrar for .id domains and cutting the process through PANDI. This’ll save a lot of time and effort for consumers, registering for a .id domains currently can be a long and painful process.
