SmartTV trend seems to start reaching the market dominated by a number of big players in the technology field. This is also including Opera. This Norwegian browser maker launched OperaTV Store in CES 2012 held in Las Vegas. OperaTV Store is a solution running from the cloud and it displays a collection of web applications which are optimized for TV screen. OperaTV Store is based on HTML5 and it already has a number of partners such as Facebook and Vimeo.
Mr Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera, in a press release that we received said, “We have a simple idea. It’s to bring the application into the TV world. We should provide web experience users, developers, content providers and producers with the most comfortable technology and cross-platform. With Opera TV Store we have done it and given the television world entertainment, possibilities and options at the same time. ”
The concept of Smart TV is not only about TV and features. Aligned with storage media (hard disk) and set top boxes, it also can deliver a unique combination of Internet content in the living room while you are relaxing on the couch or mingling with the family.
Currently OperaTV Store isn’t yet known to the public. Opera focused helping the developers to show their products on the television screen. Of course not have to capitalize Smart TV that cost is still quite expensive. Opera provides a free download emulator to help developers learn how to use smart TV display applications.
As addition, Opera also provides a contact page so that content providers and OEMs manufacturers can align the products and content owned by Opera TV Store. Who knows in the future there will be built-in Smart TV accompanied by OperaTV Store pre-loaded. In Indonesia, although Smart TV model has started being offered by various manufacturers, I believe the customer’s interest is still big. Besides the price is still relatively expensive, most people are still more convenient to browse the Internet using computer.
Paradigm of the Internet and computers are already comfortably embedded in the customer’s mind. This is homework for developers and OEMs smart TV to show their superiority and ensure that Smart TV is the future solution for connecting into the virtual world.
