IT innovators all over the world believe that coding or computer programming can be set as a ‘culture’ or routine which serves so many changes on how people live their daily life. Microsoft, one of code.org’s supporters, partners with Coding (Indonesia) in socializing the code.org in Indonesia through the #WeSpeakCode campaign.

#WeSpeakCode is a programming campaign which is dedicated to those without any IT (programming) background. This time, Microsoft challenged Ayu Dian Andasari, a fashion designer, and Dwika Putra, a musician and standup comic, to produce an artwork through coding.

The collaboration between art and IT which was done in 15 hours resulted two apps. Andasari produced Technoethnic, an app that may display various gown patterns. Meanwhile, Putra produced SongFlake, a real-time app which may create various visualization based on the music instrument being played.

“In only 15 hours, I finished Technoethnic. This app enables users to pick which pattern they want to apply on their gown. I wish to develop it further so that I could interact with my customers,” Andasari proudly stated.

During her speech, Microsoft Indonesia’s Community Affairs Manager Esther Sianipar delivered that Microsoft Indonesia has socialized the benefits of coding to people ever since 2014 through code.org, a non-profit website which is dedicated to those who want to learn computer science.

She added, “Even though they only had 15 hours, they suceeded in producing apps that can be a trademark to each own profession and hobbies. Microsoft Indonesia aims to shift people’s paradigm stating that coding is for those who are in the IT industry. In this digital era, Indonesians need to understand coding, so that they can create things through coding, not merely being a consumer.”

Besides collaborating with people who are in the creative industry, Microsoft Indonesia also invites Indonesian citizens to support #WeSpeakCode campaign through ThunderClap, a crowd speaking platform that helps people to get their voices heard.

So far, #WeSpeakCode on Thunderclap has collected support from 846 netizens, as well as 1.053.055 social reach. Through Thunderclap, people may share about the benefits of coding to people’s daily life.

Microsoft Indonesia and Coding (Indonesia) will keep holding such event in the next few months. Based on the schedule that DailySocial received, there is a #WeSpeakCode agenda which will invite Indonesian teachers, students, NGOs, and women all over Indonesia to do coding together.
