The positive trend of telcos’ consolidation in Indonesia keeps rolling. After XL successfully acquired Axis not so long ago, Reuters has it that PT Indosat Tbk, one of Indonesian titans, will soon acquire another Indonesian telco, PT Hutchison 3 Indonesia (Tri).
This maneuver will surely shrink the number of players in the segment, thus resulting on better business focus and resources possessed by the telcos, thus better services for customers can be guaranteed.
Indosat, whose 65% of its shares are owned by ooredoo Qatar, indicated that the acquisition will worth no less than Rp 5 trillion, Reuters reported. If it’s to succeed, the combination of 54 mill Indosat users and 37 mill Tri customers will form the second largest entity ever exist, surpassing XL’s. The only bigger entity (in term of number of customers) would be Telkomsel.
Indosat’s PR told DailySocial this is just a rumor.
