Hiring App Jofom Bridges Informal Job Seekers and Corporates

Jobstreet officially introduced Jofom, one of its latest innovations, yesterday (12/3). Jofom is an Android-based app which provides information of informal job vacancies. This is music to the ears of those with no proper academic title (high school or vocational school graduates, for instance).

Jobstreet’s Country Manager for Indonesia Faridah Lim stated, “We see an untouched group (graduates with no academic title) who don’t have the infrastructure (to look for jobs), unlike those with academic title.”

“This will also benefit companies, as they often find difficulties in finding informal workers. Hence, we perceive Jofom as a bridge to such condition,” she added.

Jofom app is pretty easy to use. When giving it your first access, you’re only asked to input one phone number to which the member confirmation code will be sent. Unfortunately, there’s no clear classification of companies and job seekers, thus making the validity of vacancies become questionable.

Given that fact, Lim explained that there is a reporting system prepared to prevent any fraud from occurring. If there are at least three reports made toward the same post, then Jofom will handle the post by erasing it and block the poster’s number.

There are two features that make the app stands out form others, namely the “Direct Call” and “Walk in Interview”. “Direct Call” allows users to call the job poster directly, while the “Walk in Interview” allows job seekers to attend the job interview which has been scheduled by companies.

Unfortunately, the identity of those job seekers’ complexity serves as challenge.  Since they’re only required to sign up using their phone number, there’s no curriculum vitae that needs to be attached. This makes their identity becomes less trustworthy.

That being said, Jofom argued that they want to simplify the recruiting process due to the limitation of the media used in the process, which is mobile devices. Moreover, informal workers typically don’t have too many specifications as formal workers do.

In regard to its services coverage, Lim described, “At the moment, Jofom has covered Jabodetabek, and has just been expanded to all over Java Island, especially West Java. We plan to cover all parts of Indonesia in the future.”

Ever since being launched on September 17, 2014, Jofon has got more than 12.000 downloads, more than 2.000 job vacancies posted everyday with more than 500.000 views. The app is only available on Android at the moment, since it’s the most dominant  platform and is available on various brands, Lin claimed. You may download the app here.
