Responding on the accusation stating that they don’t have yet any legal foundation to operate in Indonesia, GrabTaxi countered by confirming that they’ve been registered as a legal taxable company.
The accusation, which was also targeted at Uber and GrabTaxi, was initially reported by Indonesia Club’s Director Gigih Guntoro, to the extent of state’s licensing and loss, to the National Police HQ’s Criminal Investigation Department. A series of violation reported by Guntoro revolved around consumers’ security, employment, and protection.
In response to the accusation, GrabTaxi Indonesia assured that their company goes by the name of PT Grab Taxi Indonesia with the TIN number of 70.720.558.X-XXX.XXX. Below is their official statement:
PT Grab Taxi Indonesia clarifies that it is a company with legal entity in Indonesia. It is stated to respond the news regarding to service of Uber Taxi, Grab Taxi, and Easy Taxi was reported to Indonesia Criminal Investigation Police Agency by Gigih Guntoro from association of social study and public policy Indonesia Club as those three taxi services existence were allegedly not proper with the law and effect financial loss for the country. Grab Taxi encloses copy of PT Grab Taxi Indonesia legality and registration taxation identification number ownership document.

Update: GrabTaxi’s Head of Marketing Kiki Rizki gave his own opinion stating that his team aren’t only corporated, but also concern about things that Gigih Guntoro issued, such as tax payment and bonus for the drivers.
“Other things we want to emphasize is that in Indonesia and other five countries in which we operate, GrabTaxi doesn’t only get the official operating license from the government, but also ensuring other stuff like tax payment, including for drivers who receive incentive through the use of GrabTaxi app,” she stated.
