Go-Jek, one of most popular startups in Indonesia, have currently operated in five big cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, Surabyaa, and Makassar. However, it seems that Go-Jek isn’t stopping there, as the company posted vacancies for drivers in Semarang, Yogyakarta, Medan, and Palembang on Instagram couple of days ago, indicating that it will soon enter those four cities.
According to the job posting, Go-Jek targets cities with high business potential, hence the expansion to Semarang, Yogyakarta, Medan, and Palembang. Yogyakarta and Semarang are two of busiest cities in Java Island, while Medan and Palembang represent the high business potential that Sumatera Island holds.
The investment that Go-Jek sealed from Sequoia Capital will support this expansion.
“Ojek” is definitely not the only business line that Go-Jek eyes for. Just as its expansion on other potential segment (food delivery through Go-Food and the rumoured logistic service through Go-Box), it’s most likely that Go-Jek will take other opportunities should they are feasible enough to be taken. For the time being, let’s just wait for Go-Jek’s official statement regarding its expansion in Medan, Palembang, Semarang, and Yogyakarta.
