That was embarrassing. We got the data from Social Bakers and we have confirmed with Facebook’s own advertising platform that showed Indonesia has 36 million users, so we published the news and apparently there’s a lot of crap all over that data.
We’re not sure what happened, but we’re going to blame Facebook for that glitch on their platform because Social Bakers got their data from Facebook’s advertising system. Today, we checked both Social Bakers and Facebook and it shows Indonesia with all 42 million users adding 500k users for the past 3 months.
So, I guess we can all relax because we’re not losing 5 million users in 3 months after all.
But still the whole post is not completely wrong. Facebook adoption IS in fact growing slower for Indonesian users, especially on the mobile segment, which basically is the bigger portion of Facebook users in Indonesia. More and more people are moving away from Facebook due to lack of innovation and fierce competition by Twitter and Path. Google plus is somewhere eyeing more users in Indonesia, and now that Google have people based in Indonesia to do things for them, it’s not impossible Google plus can steal more users from Facebook, Twitter even Path.
