Remember a company called Enervolution (ENVO)? I once wrote about Enervolution or ENVO and mentioned that the company focuses on apps development for iOS. ENVO might be known for its first product, Evolitera which was a digital book service and had been wrote several times on DailySocial. This time, I have a casual chat via email with Eduardus Christmas, Founder, CEO, & Chief Innovation Officer of PT. Enervolution (ENVO) about ENVO’s iOS apps which one of them is a top paid app in App Store Indonesia.
Currently, ENVO concentrates in apps development. Eduardus explains that they are developing apps dedicated to iOS and released for the first time on April 2012. There are 6 apps available on App Store.
Those apps are Aprilio Kingdom (the label of Kevin Aprilio), Farah Quinn (Chef), Ananda Sukarlan (Pianist), Gugun Blues Shelter (a blues band), Sukarno (in partnership with Bung Karno Foundation), and Prof. Jimly, former Chairman of MK.
These apps are made with partnership concept. ENVO has the idea and initiative then choose inspiring people to get invited & turn in to an app. The selection of the persona also fits ENVO’s branding – Innovating & Inspiring. Chosen persona are those with unique achievement and specialties, not only musician but there’s also a chef – Farah Quinn and politician Sukarno apps which made it to the Top 25 Apps of App Store Indonesia for a couple of weeks (last time I checked, it’s on the 38th), receive a nice welcome especially from the design.
Cooperating with partner is done according to the agreement settled before. Eduardus explains that there is a small payment in the beginning from its partner, then there is profit sharing between ENVO and partner, the amount depends on the agreement. Eduardus adds that the partnership brings continues benefit for both parties.
The app made by ENVO also has in app purchase facility. This allows its partner to sell additional content besides the ones already available inside the app such as audio, video, image, book, etc. 80-90% of the target market is local, direct purchase is also higher than in app purchase.
I had the chance to try on one of the apps made by ENVO, Gugun Blues Shelter, and I think there are rooms for development, not only from the UI but also the content, including the interaction between user and public figure/band. The experience may differ for each app – including from the UI side. For the development of release apps, Eduardus says that there will be updates. The released ones are currently 1.0 version and there will be development for later version.
iOS apps development is chosen by many developers in Indonesia, aside from other platforms. When asked about the optimism of developing the business for this platform, Eduardus as ENVO’s representative states that they are optimist, also for the paid apps for Indonesian market. Although currently focusing on the development of iOS apps, ENVO does not close the chance of developing for other platforms. Eduardus also hopes that the iOS user market will keep on growing. Other than selling apps, they are also hoping for the opportunity to make apps based on request from third party.
Although the apps that already available at App Store are about certain public figure or musician, Eduardus says that in the next months, ENVO will develop non-persona apps. ENVO is currently developing apps for other musicians.
So what about the development of Evolitera? Although not in so many details, Eduardus gives a ‘sneak peak’ to wait for further development – or I may dare to say – surprise from this service.
All of ENVO’s apps available in App Store are paid version and even though not being clear on the amount, it is said that the income from ENVO’s apps selling is quite handsome. Along with the growth of Apple device and credit card ownerships, this business may continue to grow, especially when the rumor of phone credit cut becomes real.
On the other hand, this condition (including the growth of paid apps business) certainly becomes the opportunity for developers who want to continue doing business in apps development. Other than iOS, there are other platforms: Windows, Android, Symbian, Java or BlackBerry – BlackBerry 10 is also something to look forward to.
Apps by ENVO can be found on App Store.
