William Tunggaldjaja will now be part of KakaoTalk's team / DailySocial

That’s fast. After about a month ago Re/code unveiled the possibility of Path getting acquired by Daum Kakao, it’s now official. Not only Path, it takes over Path Talk as well. Path and Path Talk for now will be as they are today, working as separate entity. Path’s majority users, of 10 million active users, live in Southeast Asia countries, mostly in Indonesia.

Dave Morin in his blog post also mentions Path has already collected 600 million friendships and 400 million moments among their users. Path Inc now will focus on it selfie app Kong (and other products that may come along the way).

Morin’s main point is Path is popular in Southeast Asia, few thousand miles away from Path’s headquarter, and it’s better to hand it over to the larger team who have better understanding about Southeast Asian markets. It’s expected Path’s Jakarta team will be transferred as new member of KakaoTalk’s team, just setup three months ago and headed by William Tunggaldjaja.
