No, we’re not trying to torture those of you who are fasting on this first day of Ramadan but for some reason we keep coming across food related apps this last couple of weeks and we can’t help but check them out. Recipe book seems to be a popular category among Indonesian mobile app developers as we just discovered yet another one called buku resep.
buku resep is, as you can tell from the name, a recipe book. It has a list of more than 90 recipes of various Indonesian cookings from across the archipelago. The app was actually launched on June 29 and since July 7th has been holding on to number 9 on the top 25 paid apps in the Indonesian App Store.
This is the first app by OxidizePixel, a web services company based in Jakarta whose clients include BMW, Toyota, Agnes Monica, and Aquarius Musikindo.
The company, who originally sought for iOS developers back in October, managed to put together a neatly designed app with minimalistic visual elements though unfortunately without any accompanying pictures of food. It would have been so much better if it had images of the food so people can have some idea of what the end result is supposed to look like.
The app is optimized for retina display so iPhone 4 users can comfortably read the text-heavy app without being bothered by janky graphics (though it hardly has any graphics at all) but it’s not yet a universal app so iPad users will still have to enlarge or pixeldouble the app to use it. The developers did say they’re working on making it a universal app.
buku resep is available for iOS devices running iOS 4.0 for a limited time promotional price of $0.99.
Would be great if people could develop their own recipe books and share them. If this app could utilize smart phone cameras, all those awesome home-style family recipes could be captured!
I think you just came up with an idea for a social cooking app.
