It seems that there’s no shortage of excitement in the life of Budi Putra. The award-winning former senior journalist at Tempo magazine is now back in the industry as the CEO of Jakarta Post Digital, the online arm of the Jakarta Post daily newspaper, published by KompasGramedia group. Budi Putra was most recently working with Viki as the Director for Indonesia after serving for several months as an adviser to the Singapore-based video startup. At Viki, He also handled business development for the Southeast Asian market.

After leaving Tempo, Budi Putra wandered through the blogging world trying to drum up interest in blogging among the wider community as a professional blogger and co-founder of the now defunct Asian Blogging Network. In 2009, he was recruited by Yahoo Southeast Asia to establish and lead its editorial efforts in Indonesia. Yahoo Indonesia’s media arm is now one of the most popular destinations in the country with Yahoo! OMG and Yahoo! News leading the way.

His appointment as the CEO of Jakarta Post Digital came as a surprise as he had been establishing relations between Viki and content publishers across the region especially in Indonesia. We will have an interview with Budi Putra tomorrow about his move back to the world of formal journalism and how The Jakarta Post’s digital arm will operate under someone who is a blogger at heart.
