Yet another daily deals site comes up. This time it is called Bomdis — you can guess it comes from “bom diskon”(bomb of discounts), Bomdis gives “the cheapest” guarantee and put 50% as part of its promise, and with that they ready to conquer Indonesia’s already crowded daily deals market. Bomdis seemed to going to specialize itself in providing discount coupons from restaurants only. This is a head to head competition with Lapar.com which was launched first.
Bomdis is yet to be officially launched; the launching is planned for mid March 2011. However, according to founder Herman Tasmin, Bomdis has managed to get deals with various restaurants to fulfill their quota up to April 2011. Every deal will be valid for 2-3 days. Generally, Bomdis’ purchase method is not really different from other daily deals websites. Moreover, Bomdis provide a referral link for its users, if they can get 4 people purchasing through their referral link, users will get a voucher of Rp 25.000 in form of Bomdis Balance.
Other than that, Bomdis also invite users to donate through them. Bomdis will donate Rp 100 for each sold coupon, which will be used for social activities. The amount of the donation will be recorded transparently on its main page. Herman said, they are planning to use the donation for social activities, such as for natural disaster donation, providing basic foods, and so on. This is a very positive thing and should be appreciated.
Bomdis is founded by Herman Tasmin and a partner from Singapore, Harry Yeo, as co-founder. The website is now open for visit, although the deals there are still not applicable. Despite its initial looks, I still think they need a touch of revision here and there, from technology side (I found some error codes) and from design, Bomdis can make it looks more interesting. I think they need to consider using Facebook Connect so that users don’t have to create new account.
I personally say that it’s going to be a tough market for Bomdis, competing with Disdus, DealKeren, or Lapar. But I’m sure the founders have their own reason in creating Bomdis.
