Although Blackberry’s sale keeps on plummeting globally, this does not apply for Indonesia. According to Erajaya, Blackberry together with Samsung, are the two brands with the most sales in Indonesia for the last year.
Erajaya, with its subsidiary PT. Teletama Artha Mandiri (TAM), leads around 50% of Blackberry sale in Indonesia. Other than Blackberry, TAM also handles the distribution of 10 other brands in Indonesia such as Samsung, Huawei and Sony Mobile. Of the ten brands, Blackberry and Samsung are competing in leading in the cell phone sale during the past year.
Similar condition has also been reported by Telunjuk in its service release on June 2012. According to Telunjuk’s data, Blackberry is the cell phone most offered by online retailer while Samsung is the most wanted brand by Telunjuk’s user.
News surrounding RIM’s drawback and its questionable future do not seem to affect Erajaya. After opening two Blackberry Store outlets in the first semester of 2012, it plans to open another two outlets in the second semester. Erajaya’s policy is certainly based on business consideration with Blackberry still wanted by Indonesian market.
What about you? Do you still trust RIM and Blackberry?
