Baby Shark is a global phenomenon. With over 10 billion views and currently sitting at the top position of the most viewed videos on YouTube, Baby Shark has grown into one of the most recognizable earworms to emerge from the internet. Now, it also wants to be a part of another potential candidate for a global phenomenon: NFTs.
Pinkfong, the South Korean company behind Baby Shark, recently announced that it is working on Baby Shark: Collection No. 2, a collection of 10,000 unique generative NFTs featuring the titular Baby Shark and his family (Mommy Shark, Daddy Shark, Grandma Shark, Grandpa Shark). Similar to Bored Ape Yacht Club and the likes, there will be special traits and attributes assigned to each character.
Before we continue, I know some of you may ask, “Where is Baby Shark: Collection No. 1?” That one was actually released back in December 2021. It’s a collection of a unique 1/1 auction piece and 5 limited edition pieces featuring the shark family, and it was an instant sell-out. With this second collection, Pinkfong is looking to strengthen and expand the global Baby Shark community, both online and offline.
Baby Shark being Baby Shark, the upcoming NFT collection will certainly feature its catchy song at its core. However, Pinkfong is also planning collaborations with renowned musicians and artists on limited edition NFTs to create a catalog of exclusive Baby Shark remixes. Baby Shark practically wants to invade the metaverse, and we want to make sure our virtual ears are ready this time around.
Pinkfong is promising several utilities for Baby Shark NFT holders. As seen on its official website, community members will be entitled to special gifts, as well as access to exclusive events and social activations. This also applies to holders of the first collection, with a separate exclusive item that will be unveiled closer to the launch of the second collection.
While there’s no specific date being given out, Pinkfong is targeting a release for Baby Shark: Collection No. 2 sometime this summer on MakersPlace. Anyone interested — especially parents of Baby Shark devotees — can also join the official Baby Shark NFT Discord server to get regular updates on the project.
