It seems that the trend of foreign smartphone manufacturers’ invasion to Indonesia would not be ended soon. After series of investments by global giants, including Samsung, Haier, and Evercoss, in the country, now it’s China-based ZTE’s plan to establish its factory here. The factory, which is projected as the company’s center of production in Southeast Asia, is expected to start operating by the end of this year.
The Jakarta Post was the first one that made the plan became public. In regard to the publication, Jacky Chang, ZTE mobile devices CEO for Asia Pacific and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), stated that he and his team are currently preparing pretty much everything related to the factory’s establishment. The factory itself is planned to be located near the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng.
This ZTE’s plan didn’t seem to come out of nowhere, since Indonesia has always been the company’s main preference in Asia Pacific. Zhang even confirmed that his company has invested much more in Indonesia rather than in any other countries in the region. Even though China and the U.S still top the company’s largest market list, but Indonesia is seen to have what it takes to get to the top three.
Such patent potential has led ZTE to partner with PT Internux to develop Bolt. The product becomes one of ZTE’s attempts to introduce the 4G technology to Indonesian people. This is regarded as a highly prospective move by the company, as the technology is still uncommon for the majority of the people here in the country.
FYI, ZTE has globally sold 35 million units of 4G devices so far this year. By targeting cheap smartphone segment, the company is quite optimistic that its sales in Indonesia would be multiplied in the next three years.
This is not a daydream. With an excellent portfolio on the sales of 4G smartphones, ZTE has once again shown its readiness to implement 4G network in Indonesia. As a matter of fact, the company has successfully administered a 4G license for its Bolt as well as built 3000 BTS all over Jakarta.
