AppsFoundry, a startup focusing on developing apps for mobile devices such as iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry releases their second product called Scoop. Their first product was an iPhone app for Kaskus forum, and was glorified by most user and the developer community, their first app was a success. And now, they’re ready for more challenge. This time, it’s iPad.
Scoop, is a magazine reader app made for the iPad. Of course there’s a lot of other developers doing the same thing and even Apple’s own reader is not bad at all. But one thing that differentiate Scoop from Zinio or the default reader in the iPad, none of them support Indonesian magazine. It’s not about the technology anymore, it’s the content. Scoop supports more than 25 magazines ranging from Indonesian magazine, Malaysian and Singaporean. And Scoop also open the possibility for publishers who want their magazine on Scoop, could be a sustainable business model right there.
AppsFoundry was seed-funded by the aggressive VC/incubation company East Ventures around June 2010, and was East’s third portfolio in Indonesian startup scene. After invested in Tokopedia and Urbanesia, their latest investment went to Bandung-based startup Scraplr.
You can download Scoop from the Apple app store (link) and see what the fuzz is all about, and based on what i see, it could disrupt Indonesia’s publishing industry. But that’s for another blog post, wait for it š
