Apple to Expand to Indonesia, Opens Job Vacancies for Jakarta

Are you looking for a job in the tech sector? How about working at the best tech company in the world?

We just found a piece of information that Apple is currently expanding to Indonesia and currently opening a few positions for Indonesia. We have found the job openings on LinkedIn as well as Apple’s job site, and based on the positions it seems that Apple is building a consumer retail foundation for the country.

Apple is looking for an HR Manager, based on the job opening on Linkedin and it’s currently “on fire”. And if you look at the job openings at Apple’s website for Singapore, you can find 3 positions for Indonesia although the person will be based in Singapore for 3-6 months before fully operating in Jakarta.

Currently on Apple’s job site, they’re looking for iPhone Channel Manager, CES (Consumer Electronic Stores) Manager, and an Account Manager for iPhone/iPad Carrier to be based in Jakarta. So this confirms (sort of) the rumor we received about Apple talking to Indosat about potential app store billing partnership between the two companies. It’s a very retail-heavy position for Indonesia, and speculation has been going on for quite a while about Apple’s global expansion especially to Asia-Pacific markets. Even not so long ago, Apple decided to give a bit more support for its growing base of Indonesian-user through its latest iTunes release.

This strategic move is also interesting considering the fact that Indonesia, as one of the world’s biggest mobile markets, has one of the slowest penetration rates for iOS devices. Based on a research by Effective Measure, the largest market for iOS in Indonesia is owned by iPad with 10%. In total, the market share of iOS products in Indonesia is 10.06%. In Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, and Malaysia, iOS penetration reach more than 50%.

Another way to see it, is that Apple is looking at Indonesia as a potential market and will go head-to-head with the rest of the mobile players in order to partner with local carriers and of course at the end of the day, gain bigger marketshare. The partnership with telco carrier in Indonesia is essentially crucial for Apple, where the carriers will help structure the payment for Apple’s premium products that’s basically unaffordable for most Indonesian people.

Let’s see how this goes to Apple, and if either Apple or Google do a good job penetrating (and monetizing) Indonesian mobile market, it can change a lot of things and basically move the industry forward. Way forward.

Oh and in a different but somewhat related news, Steve Wozniak is coming to Jakarta for a seminar on Creativity and Innovation and you can get the tickets right here.
