An Interview with Irving Hutagalung About Windows Phone Marketplace, The Application Availability and The Developer Day Event

In between the Nokia Lumia Developer Day, DailySocial has the opportunity to meet Irving Hutagalung (an Marketing Manager-Developer and Platform Group Microsoft Indonesia) and talked about various things, including marketplace for Indonesia’s customers as well as the preparation for Windows Phone platform application availability, the purchase of application and some other things related to the ecosystem for Windows Phone.

Nokia Lumia Developer Day was held on 4th – 5th February 2012. The event was attended by more than 800 participants from various cities such as Bandung, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Depok, Cirebon, Madura, Bogor, Cianjur, Sumedang Yogyakarta and other cities. It also obtained MURI record for the category of biggest number of Windows Phone application – the Nokia Lumia – developed simultaneously. The show is filled with technical education about Windows Phone application development and how to market it.

Further along, the coding event was held for approximately 15 hours (from 7 pm until 10 am the next day). Application contest was also held and eight applications chosen for getting the prize :Nokia Lumia 800 and the successfully-developed applications will be submitted to the Windows Phone Marketplace.

This event was intended to officially welcome the arrival of two types of Lumia phone (800 and 710) in Indonesia (February 17th, 2012). It is also a series of program to support application development for Windows Phone platform. In addition to Developer Day Event, there will be a roadshow to seven universities such as University of Indonesia , Binus, UNPAR, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta Akakom STMIK, Universitas Kristen Petra and STIKOM Bali. Road-show will be held by Nokia and Microsoft from February to April 2012.

In this interview, Irving also explained that within a day or two, Indonesia customers could access marketplace from the Windows-based mobile phone. Customers also can purchase application using a credit card. To purchase with operator billing systems, there is still no certainty until now, however in my opinion it seems only a matter of time.
