Former Multiply Country Manager for Indonesia, Daniel Tumiwa, joins Garuda Indonesia to lead their digital commerce business as Vice President of E-Commerce. Travel business in Indonesia has been under the spotlight due to the tremendous growth in consumer demand, especially from domestic market. Garuda Indonesia as Indonesia’s biggest airline company has been lacking in terms of using digital in their operations.
In an email interview, Daniel told DailySocial that one of the reason why he joined Garuda is because of its interest in digital, “Garuda has big plans for its E-commece improvements and I was very interested to be part of it though my contributions”, Tumiwa said. In addition, Tumiwa will also be responsible for bookings and reservation through channels including via internet and mobile.
“Garuda passengers domestic or international need to have a world class experience in using it’s digital booking/reservation channels, an will have this very soon”, Tumiwa added. The travel industry, according to Tumiwa, leads the adoption of e-commerce in developing countries such as Indonesia, making investment in the digital sector of the travel industry makes perfect sense.
Tumiwa will still hold his position as the Chairman for Indonesia E-Commerce Association (IdEA), an association he founded during his tenure with Multiply together with Tokopedia, Blibli, Bhinneka, Kompas and numerous e-commerce companies. Before joining the ill-fated e-commerce company Multiply, Tumiwa was heavily involved in premium mobile app developer company 7Langit.
