Fashion e-commerce startup Berrybenka seems gonna start the year with a pretty big enjoyable news, today they just announce a financing round for the company from prominent Japanese investment company, GREE Ventures.
After launched August 2011, the fashion startup closed a seed funding round from Singapore-based investor East Ventures. The company itself was founded by Claudia Widjaja and Yenti Elizabeth with former Groupon Disdus CEOs Jason Lamuda and Ferry Tenka sitting on the board as advisors as well as angel investors. Both Lamuda and Tenka left Groupon to focus more of the companies they funded, including Berrybenka.
As a part of the funding deal, Lamuda will be sitting on a more prominent position in the company as President Director which will grant him more control on the operational side of the company, a knowledge we know he’s good at. “I truly believe that fashion is one of the biggest market opportunities in the Indonesian e-Commerce landscape. The extensive network and knowledge that GREE Ventures brings will be extremely beneficial for us to accelerate our trajectory” said Lamuda in a company statement.
For GREE Ventures, Berrybenka is the third portfolio company in Indonesia after investing in price comparison site PriceArea and also e-commerce network startup BukaLapak. It seems like 2013 is off to a great start for Indonesia’s tech scene.
