Another day, another Facebook rumor. After one hell of a not-so-good IPO, analysts are expecting a positive announcement from Facebook in terms of product especially on how Facebook can generate more revenue from its huge user base.
When Facebook launched “Like” button, the web went crazy for it and the media was all over them. It was a huge success. And now alongside with “Like”, Facebook is rumored to be launching a “Want” button very soon. Web developer Tom Weddington discovered a code inside Facebook’s web that indicates a tag for a “Want” button, Facebook have since removed the code from the SDK and disabled the button code.
Supposedly the “Want” button will be used by members to mark the things they want on their Facebook content, most likely products. It’s like a list of things you would like to have, a wishlist. A kind of list that might be able to give more revenue to Facebook, that is.
This kind of information is very valuable for companies like Facebook. They can connect brand owners with consumers directly with this kind of data. And it’s exactly what Facebook should go for. It makes perfect sense, consumers get what they want, brand owners connect directly to consumer’s appetite for purchase. A win-win.
If Google can get this kind of data from search queries, Facebook can get their users to give it to them. It’s one thing Facebook is really good at, getting people to give valuable information to them. And it’s a good way for Facebook to get some serious revenue out of it.
