It seems that overseas e-commerce networks are endlessly trying their luck in Indonesia. Among others there’s Rakuten, Gmarket, and most recently Zalora of Rocket Internet. Now, there’s Lazada Indonesia. Lazada is an e-commerce network based in the Middle East, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to be exact. However, apparently Lazada is still part of Rocket Internet which originated from Germany. Lazada uses shades of blue and orange theme, similar to Amazon.
Different to Zalora which specializes in fashion products, Lazada, as you can see on its website, will focus on consumer electronic goods and household appliances. A number of famous brands have been registered in Lazada Indonesia. Like Zalora, Lazada also provides free delivery for Jakarta area by cooperating with Go-Jek. Obviously since Rocket Internet Indonesia’s CEO is also a co-founder of Go-Jek.
Lazada expands itself in Southeast Asia in a different way. If Zalora was already present in other countries in Southeast Asia before it launched in Indonesia, Lazada will be launched in Indonesia first. Lazada Malaysia has already made a Facebook account but the site itself has not yet been completed. It seems that Lazada is nearly ready in Thailand if we take a peek at the vacancy section on Lazada’s main Facebook account.
Rocket Internet differentiates its offerings by offering different products on different sites. While Tokobagus, blibli or Rakuten put everything together in one place. Which way is more suitable for the Indonesian culture? Let’s see whether Rocket Internet’s plans are going to run smoothly.
